Privacy policy

Updated

Your file is processed on your device and never uploaded to our servers.

This page explains exactly what that means, what else the website loads, and the small amount of data we do handle when you buy or restore an unlock. We try not to claim more than is true.

Your file stays on your device

  • When you open your Google Maps export, your browser reads it with JavaScript and parses it in a background worker on your own device.
  • The contents of the file, and anything worked out from it (statistics, names, messages, locations), are never sent to our servers. We have no copy and could not see it if we wanted to.
  • Exports such as PDF or CSV files are generated in your browser and saved straight to your device.
  • The data lives only in the open tab's memory. Close or reload the tab and it is gone.

What else the page loads

To be clear about the limits of the promise above: the website itself loads a few third-party scripts. None of them receive your file or anything read from it.

  • Ads (Google AdSense). The site is funded by ads. Google may use cookies or similar identifiers to show and measure ads, depending on your consent choices. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
  • Consent messages (Google Funding Choices). Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads or ad cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time via the privacy settings link the consent tool shows.
  • Analytics (Umami, self-hosted, cookieless). We count page views and a few anonymous events, such as "a file was opened" or "unlock clicked", sometimes with a coarse bucket like the file-size range. No cookies, no file contents, no names and no identifying numbers.
  • Server logs. Like any web server, ours briefly records technical request data (IP address, browser, page requested) for security and troubleshooting. These logs are deleted after a short period.

Payments and the unlock

  • Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, who act as the merchant of record. They collect your payment details, email and billing country to process the payment and handle taxes, under their privacy policy. We never see your card details.
  • From each order we keep the order id, the license key, the site it was bought for, and a one-way hash of your email address (not the address itself). This lets us activate and restore your unlock and handle refunds.
  • The unlock is stored in your browser (localStorage and IndexedDB) as a signed token. It contains the site and your license reference, nothing about your file.

Email is only used for restore

If you use Restore purchase, we hash the email you enter, look for a matching order and, if there is one, send a one-time sign-in link through our email provider. We use your email for nothing else: no newsletters, no marketing, and we never sell or share it.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask what data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we only keep an email hash and order details, deleting it means a restore will no longer find your purchase. Contact us at hello@timelinemap.app. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in Romania, ANSPDCP).

Who we are

TimelineMap.app is run by an independent developer based in Romania, who is the data controller for the limited data described above. See About.
